Solar Hot Water
Solar hot water is a great way for homes to further decrease their electricity bills, and consequently, their environmental impact. As such, SolarHub can offer two different style of systems. These are inclusive of the evacuated tube from Rinnai, and the heat pump from Stiebel Eltron. The decision between the two depends on a variety of factors including size, usage, and pricing, which we can discuss with you further.
If you are considering purchasing a solar PV system or already have a system then you may want to consider a heat pump which can be configured to work when the sun is shining, thus making it a very economical way to heat water. However, if you don’t have, or intend to get solar PV, then an evacuated tube system may make the most sense. Your SolarHub consultant will help you weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each option to help you make the right decision.
What things should you consider when choosing a hot water system?
- Number of people in your home and your hot water usage
- Roof pitch and orientation – ideally north, but east and west are also acceptable
- Available roof space
- Potential shading
- Existing obstructions on your roof such as chimneys and skylights
- Tank positioning and the distance between your collectors and the tank
Financial incentives are still available
To encourage individuals and businesses to use renewable sources of energy the federal government offers financial incentives when you purchase a solar hot water system. Further, as with solar panel systems you will be eligible for Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STC’s) for each system purchased.
Small Scale Technology Certificates (STC’s) are allocated to a system depending on the overall efficiency of the system. There must therefore be a minimum of 20 STC’s to comply. However, your SolarHub consultant will provide you with detailed information on what rebates you are eligible for as part of our site assessment and report. They will then work with you to assess the best option for your situation, and further inform you of any relevant information.
